EASTSTRIKEWEST - w o l v v e s

This band isn't very huge but my god do they deserve to be. This album is absolutely sensational with heavy post rock influence, amazing lyrics, and such a power vocalist my jaw nearly dropped when I first heard this. Every song is so emotionally dynamic and striking. Its all very well composed and arranged. Needless to say I'm kind of speechless when it comes to these guys its just fucking perfect. Listen, enjoy, and for the love of god support!

Giraffes?Giraffes! - More Skin With Milk Mouth

As you may recall in a previous post I mentioned this band. Discovering these guys was a very defining moment in my music history, it completely changed the way I view music as a whole but especially rock. When I think of math rock the phrase "tastes like chicken" comes to mind. There is no one defining sound to identify it but when you hear it you know it. This duo brings an incredibly fast paced and fairly aggressive tone to their take on the genre. Offering up mind boggling time signatures, and a guitarist who seemingly has 4 arms and hands because I couldn've sworn until I saw live videos this was certainly not a 2 piece. Simply put these guys are fucking awesome and I haven't really heard anything that comes remotely close to this but I'm certain other opinions vary greatly.

After the Burial - Rareform

This album and band immediately blew me away. When I initially started to really listen to music it was melodic death metal that sparked the flame. Back when In Flames was a good band, remember? In more recent times metal as a whole has become rather diluted with imitation after imitation whether its in the form of deathcore or bands like Bullet for My Valentine. Needless to say when I first heard these guys I was ecstatic. I'm not saying this is some revolution for metal or strikingly original, it was just very refreshing. This band brings a whole lot to the table, beautiful melodies, crushing break downs, mind bending time signatures, the lot. If you're in to metal theres no reason you shouldn't love this, if you're not theres no reason you shouldn't love this. Perhaps you're of the impression that metal music doesn't generally have a lot of substance in which case I present to you this.

Adam Haworth Stephens - We Live On Cliffs

This particular album is one I'm pretty excited to be writing about. Adam Stephens is an artist I hold in extremely high regards. Everything he's ever dipped his hands in is to my ears quite brilliant. From 2gs to this his solo project. For those of you familiar with everything he's done its for the most part quite melancholy this however is in a bit different direction. He's just one of those artists who is very obviously genuine in all that he does. The lyrics and sound are something reminiscent of the old west and are clearly influenced by country music not Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, or any of that horse shit but real country. I'll be honest at first I was not very receptive to this, I expected yet another album that would nearly drive me to tears but once I opened up to it a little I realized the error of my ways. This is a truly great album with a very refreshing sound it seems more and more as time progresses that unique is being driven out of the music industry but I think this and all of this mans work are very deserving of such a title.

On a little side note he is in fact playing a show near me which I will be attending. Hopefully I can come back with some photos or video.

Malegoat - To Face the Music

This is yet another band I can't get enough of. Mostly due to the fact that upon my discovery of it I have become obsessed with all things math(y) and these fellows from japan do it quite well. I'm almost positive because of how similar this band sounds to Cap'n jazz (who happen to be my favorite band ever EVER) my opinion may be a tad biased. Regardless, this is just really fun music to listen to, no matter what sort of mood I may be in math rock lifts me. I prefer their first effort over this but this is their newest and is probably a greater indication of where they're going to take their particular sound.

Now for those of you who are unaware there are an unlimited number of bands and sounds that fall in to math rock. Minus the Bear, Giraffes?Giraffes!, I could go on but won't. This particular brand is more along the lines of indie. Its got a very poppy sound. Just check it out, if you like what you hear great, if you don't I don't care.

If you like what you hear click the fuck out of this.

IGOTSOBOREDITRIEDAGAIN

Being the baby I am after putting little effort in to getting anyone to read this blog ever I have once again out of boredom and a desire to share my voice with the world am going to start this back up. The odds of anyone seeing this at all are shit but who cares?

For my second post I'll be taking a look/listen to Wildebeest. If you haven't heard of this band already thats a shame. Luckily I'm here to share this jewel with you all or none.

As I type this I'm currently uploading some videos to youtube to further expand my reach in to the internet and all I can really say is I love this band. Its just all around great folk, the lyrics are easily related to and really speek to me. Theres something about such honest music that I simply can't get enough of. So heres a little sample before you waste your time downloading this.

I'd tell you to support the band and what have you but they no longer exist and as far as I'm aware even when they did it would have been rather difficult to.
